Mobile World Congress attendees enter the venue, Fira de Barcelona, from the gorgeous Plaça Espanya. Attendees who scan a barcode on their mobile device can "Fast Track" their way inside. (And if it seems crowded, don't worry - there are other ways and places to enter).

We close off a public street between the exhibition halls in order to accommodate our 60,000 attendees, additional exhibition stands and hospitality suites. With the two tall towers behind you and the National Palace in Montjuïc ahead of you, walking into the venue is truly a sight to behold. You can even catch up on the day's news by watching Mobile World Live TV as you make your way.

More than 1,400 exhibitors showcase their products and services at MWC each year. The first hall you come to when entering the venue is Hall 1, the spot where first-time visitors truly begin to grasp the scale and reach of Mobile World Congress.

Some of the world's most influential visionaries and CEOs speak at Mobile World Congress each year. In 2011 we featured keynote speakers from industry leaders such as AT&T, China Mobile, Telecom Italia and Vodafone, and from consumer brands Google, Microsoft and Twitter. This image was taken while Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, was speaking to thousands throughout the show and around the world, via Mobile World Live.

Once again, App Planet is filled with buzz, innovation and lots of app developers. This image shows the large exhibition portion of App Planet, which in 2011 also featured App Developer Conferences, an App Lounge, the App Garage and the Forum Series.

After you've looped around the venue you finish up at Hall 8. As you watch the massive crowds and exhibition stands, it's difficult to remember that these are temporary stands constructed just for Mobile World Congress - it feels like you're in a shopping mall!

A part of the event that few get to see is the GSMA Media Centre. From this location in Hall 2, more than 2,400 members of the worldwide press gather to write articles, news stories and blogs about Mobile World Congress. This image is shot in the Press Communications Room, just one place where the media do their work. Companies hold press meetings and press conferences here as well. Our 2011 show was again a paperless 'Green Media Centre' as part of our MWC Green Initiatives programme.
