Mobile App Challenge Series

GSMA is looking for exciting global brand and agency partners to help create a series of Mobile App Challenges throughout 2011 and 2012. The goal of each challenge is to inspire developers to create efficient and original mobile device apps that meet the needs of global brands and creative agencies to increase consumer affinity. Submissions are rewarded for their ability to address the criteria set forth by the Challenge partners. The number of winners, prize packages and judging criteria may differ among the Challenges.

We are currently running a Challenge to find the world’s “Smartest”Mobile Apps. Read on below for details.

Do you have a Smarter App?

Consumer demand for innovative smartphone applications has grown dramatically over the past few years; there are now more than 1 million apps available worldwide and more than 19,000 new appls are being added each week, according to mobile analytics firm Distimo. This high demand for and heavy use of mobile applications has resulted in a greatly increased signalling load at the network level, compared with a relatively low amount of data traffic. A driver behind this increased signaling load is the proliferation of “network-unfriendly” applications that are not optimised for mobile networks.

As a result, we are looking for the world’s smartest mobile apps. We want to showcase the apps that best protect the users’ battery life, use the radio network in the most efficient way, are always connected and give an amazing user experience.

The Challenge is now open and will run through 16 May 2012 with the Grand Prize Winner receiving $10,000 and a trip for two to Mobile Asia Expo 20-22 June 2012 in Shanghai.
