About NFC

Near Field Communication (NFC) is a standards-based, short-range wireless connectivity technology. Products with NFC capability simplify how people share information, speed "consumer" connections, and help enable easy, secure payments.

NFC is designed to operate over very short distances, typically less than 4 cm and provides a fast, simple and secure means to experience a range of new "contactless" services using a mobile phone.

Many of the largest Mobile Network Operators, financial services companies and mobile handset and technology vendors have been working together, in a GSM Association (GSMA) initiative, to develop a common vision for Mobile NFC services and to promote the development of an innovative and efficient ecosystem.

About The NFC Experience

The NFC Experience is a showcase for mobile NFC at Mobile World Congress 2010.

Our objective is to announce to the world that NFC has arrived! As well as acknowledge the GSMA and its members and partners as drivers of NFC technology and standards.

During the four days of the Congress, The NFC Experience will demonstrate and highlight NFC applications along with NFC technologies, like NFC-enabled handsets and readers. Briefly, we will:

  • Give up to 500 UICC (aka SIM) based NFC Handsets to selected VIPs.

    • VIPs from mobile operator partners
    • Journalists and other media
    • Early registrants paying for the full access Platinum Conferences Pass (and Gold Pass as long as supplies last, on a first come-first served basis)

  • "Load" each phone with advanced contactless applications and a special gift that can be used in and around the exhibition area.
  • The phones can also be used to exchange business card information with attendees at MWC10
  • Allow those who receive the phone to keep the NFC phone after MWC10 is over!

There are three ways to participate in The NFC Experience:

  1. You are notified that you are a VIP by one of our sponsors. If so, you will receive your phone directly from that sponsor at MWC10 (more details will be coming soon)

  2. If you purchase a Platinum Pass for the Conference, you will automatically be entered and will receive your phone at MWC10 (again, more details will be coming soon)

  3. If you purchase a Gold Pass early enough, while very limited supplies last, you will be entered and will receive your phone at MWC10 (again, more details will be coming soon).

Much more information is coming as we get closer to the opening of the Mobile World Congress, so please visit this page often to stay up-to-speed on all the latest happenings.

We hope you will be a part of The NFC Experience!
