Green Initiatives at Mobile World Congress

The GSMA strives to be environmentally responsible at all of our offices worldwide, as well as at our global events. In addition to encouraging Mobile World Congress exhibitors, sponsors and partners to do their part, we are pleased to announce the ‘green’ undertakings at the 2010 GSMA Mobile World Congress:
  • All aisle carpeting will be recycled after the event into acoustic insulation panels. This means a reduction of over 20 tons of carpet going to landfill sites
  • Registration materials including delegate bags, USB drives and lanyards are made from post-consumer recycled plastic bottles
  • The Exhibition Catalog and Show Daily are printed on recycled stock. We use local printers to produce these publications on recycled stock to minimise our carbon footprint
  • The Hall 2 Media Centre is entirely paper-free this year. For the first time the Media Centre will not use any printed media. Instead an on-line solution has been introduced to hold all press releases on one digital platform.

You Can Help
Please join us in our efforts and be environmentally responsible, by doing the following:

  • Separate plastics and paper from garbage in the bins around the venue. Fira Barcelona recycles these items during and after the event.
  • Download the Mobile Guide to your mobile phone. The Mobile Guide is a great alternative to our printed exhibition catalogue and can be downloaded to your handset at www.whatamap.com/mwc/. This also allows us to further reduce printed materials in coming years.
  • Elect to receive electronic sales literature from exhibitors, instead of taking printed materials home with you
  • See how green thinking is improving the mobile industry at the Green Feature in Zone 5 (Upper Village). Two exhibitors are displaying base stations and mobile masts powered by renewable energy.
  • Help us recycle your pass by placing it in one of the drop-off bins as you leave the venue the final time.

Together we are making a difference. Thank you for your assistance.

Highlighting Innovative Environmental Solutions at Mobile World Congress

JIVO's Biodegradable iPhone case.

Through research and development with their partners, JIVO Technology has developed a unique, biodegradable iPhone case by creating a resin that injects directly into the standard TPU case. The Jivo iPhone case is biodegradable within five years, while a standard iPhone case can take up to fifty years to breakdown. In addition, the Jivo Biodegradable iPhone packaging is completely recyclable. To learn more, visit: http://www.jivotechnology.com/

PowerOasis-Cutting Diesel Usage and Carbon Emissions by 50% or More for Generator Powered Base Stations

PowerOasis will be launching two new products at Mobile World Congress 2010, which are designed to reduce diesel consumption and associated carbon emissions on the 400K+ mobile telecommunications base stations around the world that are powered by generators.
PowerOasis Controller (D): a smart generator-battery hybrid controller that runs a generator for shorter periods at optimum loads leading to a reduction in fuel consumption and associated carbon emissions by at least 50%.
PowerOasis Manager: a remote monitoring and control system that communicates with the PowerOasis Controller (D) on multiple sites to report diesel consumption, equipment status and power performance against KPIs.
