Be environmentally conscious at MWC 2014

Mobile World Congress to become the world’s largest carbon neutral tradeshow

The GSMA is committed to reducing the impact of its events on the environment. In particular, Mobile World Congress focuses heavily on reducing waste in printed materials, encouraging the re-use and recycling of materials at the venue, utilising digital signage and electronic tools and working with Fira Barcelona, exhibitors and local partners to minimise the carbon footprint of the event.

Carbon Neutrality
As part of this commitment, we have extended our efforts to obtain official certification under the international standard PAS 2060. Upon certification, Mobile World Congress will be largest tradeshow in the world certified as carbon neutral under the PAS 2060 international standard.

The GSMA strives to be environmentally responsible at all of our offices worldwide, as well as at our global events. We encourage Mobile World Congress exhibitors, sponsors and partners to do their part.

  • Continue to work actively with our suppliers and products where ever possible
  • Reduction of 55% of our wastes since MWC 2008.
  • Waste management team in place during build-up and dismantling
  • Elimination of all plastic supports to event badges
  • Voluntary carbon compensation for hotels via Barcelona Business Pass
  • Paper-free Media Centre
  • EVP/Conference bags and lanyards made out of recycled material
  • All communications documents are printed on recycled material: Conference Guides, Exhibiion Catalogues, and Mobile World Daily
  • Communication campaign includes green messages in conferences holding slides/media centre slides
  • Creation of a green logo to communicate about our initiatives with more impact
