General Registration Queries

How can I register to attend?

What currencies do you accept?

Payments will be accepted in Euros only.

What credit cards do you accept?

We accept payment by American Express, Visa or MasterCard. Please note Visa debit cards may not be accepted outside of the country of origin and/or your bank may decline large transaction amounts. For more information, please contact your bank directly before attempting payment.

Can I pay by bank/wire transfer?

Yes. In order to pay by bank / wire transfer you will need to select this option during ‘Step 5– Review & Submit’ of the registration process. If you require a VAT invoice, this option is available during this step of the registration process.

Please allow enough time for your bank/wire transfer payment to be completed, as processing can take up to 10 working days. If the transfer has not cleared prior to your arrival onsite you will be expected to supply an alternate form of payment. Badges will not be distributed without full payment of registration fees.

Please note: Approximately 10 days prior to the event, the option to pay by bank/wire transfer will be removed from the registration process in order to allow time for payments to be received. After this stage, only credit cards will be accepted.

Is there a minimum age to attend Mobile World Congress?

Yes – all attendees must be 16 years or older. Any requests for visitors under the age of 16 must be put in writing to Requests must be approved by GSMA prior to the event. Attendees under the age of 16 will not be able to enter the event without GSMA’s prior written approval.

What kind of passes are available? What does my pass type give me access to?

Can I register onsite?

Certainly! However, we strongly recommend you register before arrival in Barcelona to avoid queues.

What is the Cancellation or Substitution Policy?

ALL SALES ARE FINAL. Cancellations, as well as ‘no shows’, will be liable for the FULL registration fee. No refunds shall be given. Cancellation of travel reservation and hotel reservation are the exclusive responsibility of the registrant.

Paid attendees can send a substitution if they are no longer able to attend. See the “Registration Assistance” section for more details on substitutions.

Please note: If you received a complimentary pass or purchased a pass from an Exhibitor or Partner cancellation or substation may be at their discretion. Contact the Exhibitor or Partner for more information.

How can I claim Value Added Tax (VAT) back?

The GSMA does not promote a tax compliance and recovery service for Mobile World Congress. This is due to differing standards of service and delivery available to different attendees and exhibitors in different countries. Our suggestion is that you undertake a search in your country for a reputable service provider and/or engage with your accounts or auditors for a recommendation specific to your organisation and country.

When will I receive a registration confirmation?

Only attendees who have completed and paid in full their registration, have uploaded a good quality profile photo and uploaded their ID details within their registration account will qualify as Good-To-Go. Only Good-To-Go attendees will have access to their Final Confirmation within the My MWC event App when it launches in mid-December. Your Final Confirmation must be brought with you onsite in order to collect your badge and contains useful joining information.

Please note access to Partner Programmes at Mobile World will be confirmed directly by the event organiser. The Final Confirmation received from the GSMA includes confirmation of your Mobile World Congress registration only, and does not imply confirmation of attendance at a specific programme you may have applied for.

Registration Assistance

Do I need an invitation to attend?

No, an invitation is not required. Some attendees are invited to attend by our exhibitors and partners but many guests do not receive an invitation. If you don’t have an invitation, just skip over the “code” input step when registering.

If you have received an invitation to attend, the Registration Code to submit when completing your registration will be in the invitation email, along with full instructions on how to complete the registration process. Please refer to this email before starting the registration process.

I received more than one invitation to attend, what should I do?

You only need to register once to attend Mobile World Congress. If you have already registered, and later receive an invitation for a pass of greater value or one which provides you with access to more than your current pass, log in to the registration system and select “Upgrade Registration”. Enter your Registration Code and continue through the registration process.

I don’t have an email account to register. What should I do?

Those wishing to attend Mobile World Congress 2016 must register to attend the event, and you will require a valid email account to register. Once you have successfully registered, your acknowledgement will be emailed to you prior to the event.

You may also register for Mobile World Congress using your LinkedIn account. Select “Sign in with LinkedIn” on the landing page to connect your LinkedIn profile to your registration account, take advantage of enhanced networking opportunities and benefit from LinkedIn’s extensive community of industry professionals attending MWC.

I do not remember my LinkedIn password. What should I do?

Click on “Sign in with LinkedIn” on the landing page then click on “Forgot Password?” to reset your password.

I do not have a LinkedIn account. Can I still register?

Yes. Either select “Existing Mobile World Congress Account” if you have attended in previous years or “New Mobile World Congress Account” if you have not previously attended.

I can no longer attend – can my colleague attend in my place?

Substitutions between attendees from the same company and at the same invoice address may be made by providing the GSMA with written notice of the name of the original attendee and full details of the substitute attendee.

To arrange a substitution, please email full details to the Registration Team. Please place “Pass Substitution MWC16” in the subject line of the email. The new attendee will automatically be emailed a Final Confirmation once the process has been completed. Please note that this might take a few days to complete, subject to workloads at our registration service centre.

Once a badge has been issued onsite, substitutions are no longer allowed.

How do I upgrade or change my registration?

Upgrading your registration is easy:

  1. Choose ‘Upgrade your Pass’
  2. Enter a code if you have one and/or select your upgraded pass
  3. Continue through your application
  4. Select your payment method and submit your application

Please note you are not able to modify your email address or last name once you have submitted your first registration.

Why do I need to supply ID information?

As part of coordinated security planning for Mobile World Congress, the Catalan police (Mossos d´Esquadra) have requested the collection of personal identification details from Mobile World Congress attendees. Data from passports and ID cards will be collected and shared with the Catalan police. The GSMA will ensure that all personal data is encrypted, transmitted and stored in a secure manner and that all data held by the GSMA will be destroyed following the completion of the event.

Why are you collecting attendee ID?

We are committed to ensuring the safety of Mobile World Congress attendees, both onsite at the Fira Gran Via and Fira Montjuïc venues and offsite as they visit the city of Barcelona. As part of our overall venue and citywide security plan, we work with the Mossos d´Esquadra to identify and address possible security threats. Collecting attendee identification is one means to enhance our overall security plan and improve attendee security.

Is ID collection something new?

Mobile World Congress attendees have always been required to present photo identification to verify their identity when they pick up their badge onsite and each time they enter the venue using their printed badge. We are now recording this information and sharing with the Mossos d´Esquadra to strengthen our overall city and venue security plan. Most attendees are actually already familiar with this type of process, as it’s similar to providing passport or identification to hotels internationally (including in Spain) upon check-in or with airlines prior to travel. In both of these cases, identification and personal data is shared with law enforcement authorities.

What if I don’t want to provide my ID information to be collected? Will I still be allowed entry to Mobile World Congress?

Attendees who refuse to provide their identification will not be able to collect their badge and will not be able to enter Mobile World Congress.

How are you collecting ID information?

We are collecting this data via two methods – manual input by the attendee into the registration website or via a scan of their MRZ (Machine-Readable Zone) code on their passport or European Union identity card. In either case, the data is encrypted and securely transferred to a server and will only be retained for the period leading up to, onsite and shortly after Mobile World Congress. While attendees are not required to provide this information prior to arriving at Mobile World Congress, it is mandatory that they provide this in order to collect their printed badge. Onsite they may also choose to either have their data input manually or via the MRZ scan.

Is there a benefit to an attendee who has provided this information before arriving to collect their badge?

Yes, the attendee will experience a faster and smoother badge collection process. If they have also uploaded a good quality profile photo during registration, they will also be able to use their Digital Badge to access Mobile World Congress without having to repeatedly show their ID at access. The Digital Badge is included in the official event app and is available for use once the attendee has collected their printed badge.

How can you ensure the security of my personal data?

We utilise industry-recognised encryption within the systems that collect personal data. Additionally, the GSMA and Fira have commissioned a third- party penetration test and systems audit to ensure the security of personal information.

Digital Badge at MWC

What is a Digital Badge?

Digital Badge is a feature in the My MWC event app which allows you to use your handset to access Mobile World Congress. The My MWC event app will be available mid-December.

The Digital Badge will enable you to enjoy ease-of-access during MWC, passing through dedicated entrance lanes at the North and South Entrances without having to repeatedly show photo ID – you will only need to show official photo ID once to collect your printed badge and to validate your Digital Badge photo.

If your photo was validated at MWC15 and you have not changed or amended your photo record, your photo is still validated. You must still collect your printed badge once you arrive either at BCN airport, at Sants Train Station, at our city center location or onsite at the venue.

What is the My MWC – GSMA Official Event App?

GSMA My MWC Event App will be available mid-December putting everything about MWC in the palm of your hand, including:

  • Event information
  • Networking
  • Essential venue services, such as transportation and catering facilities
  • Way-finding and maps
  • My Reg & Badge

How do I log into the Digital Badge?

Please check this FAQ mid-December for further information.

Why is my photo required?

This is a requirement for Digital Badge use. Your photo will be stored within your registration account. Once your photo is validated, you will be able to access the venue using your Digital Badge without repeatedly presenting your photo ID at access points.

How do I upload my photo?

During the registration process upload a photo of yourself when prompted into your registration account.

How do I validate my photo?

Our registration agents will validate your photo when you collect your printed badge. You will be asked to produce valid photo ID at this point.

Once validated, your photo will be locked and cannot be modified.

Note: If your photo was validated at Mobile World Congress 2015, it may be re-used without having to re-validate, unless you change the photo. The Digital Badge does not replace the Printed Badge.

Can I use the Digital Badge during build and dismantle period?

No. The Digital Badge app is functional during show days only. Printed Badges must be shown to pass through entrance lanes during build and dismantle.

Does the Digital Badge replace my Printed Badge?

No, the Digital Badge does not replace the Printed Badge. You must wear your printed badge onsite at all times.

Visa Invitation Letter Information

Do I require a visa to enter Spain?

GSMA can provide you with a supporting visa invitation letter which you can request through the registration system (please look for the option to fill in your passport details in ‘Step 2 – Personal Data’). You must be fully registered and have paid your registration fee in full, as well as completing the Passport Details section, in order to receive visa support.

If you do not require a visa, please do not apply for visa support as the GSMA will not issue supporting information for nationalities that do not require a visa.

How do I obtain a visa invitation letter?

Attendees requiring a supporting visa invitation letter need to submit their passport information during the registration process. Attendees can log in at any time to request a visa invitation letter by selecting ‘Request a Visa Invitation Letter’.

The GSMA will only assist with registration confirmations letters in support for a visa application once the applicant has registered to the Congress and the registration fee has been paid in full. Please note the following important terms:

  • Visa invitation letter requests are processed immediately following the completion of your registration and are submitted to you via email. You must ensure you provide all the mandatory information before your request will be processed
  • Visa invitation letters will only be issued for the period of the event and for entry into Spain. No other date and / or country requests will be supported
  • It is recommended that you check the full requirements for a visa to Spain and allow plenty of time to provide the necessary documentation to the institution the application is being processed through. For more information, click here.
  • Support information provided and visa issuance is beyond GSMA’s control. GSMA are not liable for visa costs, shipping, processing and/or issuance
  • Cost of any hardcopy sending (FedEx, DHL, etc.) to be carried and arranged by the applicant. Hard copies will only be provided under exceptional circumstances
  • Please refer to our event terms for cancellation conditions. There is a no-refund policy in place. GSMA will not refund registration fees in case of applicant’s failure to obtain a visa

What is 4YFN?

4YFN is an international programme, organised by Mobile World Capital Barcelona and GSMA, which brings together best mobile start-ups and entrepreneurs with investors, accelerators, incubators and big corporations from digital and non-digital worlds. Please click here for more information.

Where is 4YFN held?

4YFN is held from Monday 22 through to Thursday, 25 February 2016 at Fira Montjuïc.

Who is the audience for this event?

How do I attend 4YFN?

All Mobile World Congress Pass holders are eligible to attend the 4YFN event. All that is required is to show a valid MWC badge at the entrance.

How do I get to Fira Montjuïc to attend 4YFN?

Shuttle busses will run between Fira Gran Via and Fira Montjuïc for your convenience.

Partner Programmes & MWC Tours Registration Queries

What are Partner Programmes?

Mobile World Congress Partner Programmes are focused on a specific audience or industry topic, and led by some of the most influential mobile and vertical industry leaders. These programmes include Partner Events, App Developer Conferences (ADCs), Forum Series, and Power Hour sessions. Click here for more information and a list of Partner Programmes.

How do I attend a Partner Programme?

There are two ways to attend a Partner Programme: the Partner invites you directly through their own marketing channels or you may indicate your interest to attend by clicking the button on their web page on the MWC website. You can also use My Registration Account to indicate your interest as well. The partner will receive your request and then send you a confirmation if they have approved your attendance.

Some programmes, including Professional Training courses, have an additional fee. If an additional fee is required, you will be redirected to the Partner for payment options.

Please note: If you are interested in attending more than one Partner Programme that requires a fee, you must pay the fee for each programme.

Will I receive a Partner Programme confirmation?

Yes, you will receive an email indicating that you have been accepted or declined admittance to the programme. This notification is in addition to your MWC registration acknowledgement email.

Can I register for a programme on-site?

Many Partners do require pre-registration and/or programmes may reach capacity before the event. Be sure to apply for your interested programmes in advance of MWC to ensure a decision is made on your admittance.

Do I need an additional badge to attend a Partner Programme?

No, you will use your existing MWC badge to attend the programme. You badge will be scanned at the theatre door to allow entry into the programme. Click here for information on MWC badge collection locations, dates, and times.

How do I register?

To invite guests or register your own staff, you need to access the GSMA Exhibitor & Partner Invitation System.

Note: if you are an Exhibitor as well as a Partner or Sponsor, you may have multiple accounts with separate allocations. Check the name of the account to ensure it is the correct one before you start inviting your attendees.

How do I log in to the Exhibitor & Partner Invitation System?

You should have received an email with your login details and instructions on how to access the Exhibitor & Partner Invitation system. If you have not received your login details, please email the Exhibitor Registration Team.

Please verify we have the correct Registration Coordinator contact in your Online Exhibitor Manual.

This is the contact who will receive all information on Exhibitor Registration, as well as information on the Exhibitor & Partner Invitation System going live. You can also check your allocation of passes in the Exhibitor Manual.

How do I invite or register my staff and guests?

To invite guests or register your own staff you will need to access the Exhibitor & Partner Invitation System. Registration Coordinators should have received their login details by email as soon as the Exhibitor & Partner Invitation System went live.

Exhibitors and Sponsors must ensure the correct contact information for their Registration Coordinator is in the Exhibitor Manual (Additional Contacts).

I am working on a stand, do I need to register?

Yes, you need to contact the registration coordinator of the Exhibitor or Partner for whom you are working. They should provide you with a registration code and instructions on how to register. If you have been provided with a code to register, please click here and follow the steps to get your pass.

Press/Analyst Registration Queries

How do I apply as Press / Analyst?

Members of the media and industry analysts who wish to attend Mobile World Congress 2016 should click here for accreditation information and further details of applying to attend.

Press and industry analysts must apply for accreditation using the Press / Analyst Accreditation system where you will be required to complete your personal data, contact preferences and upload supporting criteria. After submitting your accreditation, your application will be reviewed by the GSMA Press team. If the application is successful, you will be sent a registration confirmation via email, and no further action is required.

What does the Press / Analyst Pass include?

A Press and Industry Analyst pass provides access to the four-day Conference Programme, the Exhibition halls, App Planet, the Global Mobile Awards presentation, 4YFN (4 Years From Now), and the Mobile World Congress Media Village.

I applied for Press / Analyst Accreditation and am still waiting to hear if it has been accepted.

More than 4,000 people apply to be accredited for Mobile World Congress each year and as a consequence the review and approval of these applications can take some time. We attempt to respond to all accreditation applications within 5–10 working days of receiving your application. Once your accreditation application has been reviewed, you will receive a further email outlining if your application has been accepted or declined.

To check the status of your application, log in to your account and you can find your status on the Home page.

What if I don’t meet the Press / Analyst accreditation criteria?

If you do not meet the criteria for the Press / Analyst Accreditation and still wish to attend the event you must purchase a pass. Information on pass types and prices is available here.

GSMA Member Registration Queries

I am a GSMA Member. How do I register with a discount?

GSMA Members are eligible to receive a 30% discount on any pass purchase. To obtain the discount, you must have your Member Discount Code before you begin your registration which includes your Organisation ID.
To obtain your Organisation ID:

  • Log into InfoCentre2
  • Click on “My Organisation”.
  • The Organisation ID can be found underneath the Organisation Name and Company introduction.
  • In order to receive your discount, you must supply your Organisation ID prefixed with MWC during registration (i.e. if your Organisation ID is 98765, enter MWC98765. If your Organisation ID is less than 5 digits, i.e your Org ID is 88, you would enter MWC00088)
  • Insert this code in the appropriate box during ‘Step 3 – Pass Type Selection’

Note: GSMA Member Discounts can only be used by attendees from a member organisation. Member Discount codes cannot be shared with external customers and clients. If you use the GSMA Member Discount code and you are not an attendee from a member organization, you will be personally liable for the full amount of the applicable registration fee.

Ministerial Programme Registration Queries

What are the attendance criteria?

Participation in the GSMA Ministerial Programme is by invitation only, and is restricted to individuals representing the following:

  • National telecommunications ministries
  • National telecommunications regulatory authorities
  • Senior representatives from selected international organisations and inter-governmental bodies
  • C-level and senior regulatory representatives from the mobile industry, including mobile network operators and vendors
